Mutual Solubilities of Ammonium-Based Ionic Liquids with Water and with Water/Methanol Mixture
Machanová, Karolina ; Jacquemin, J. ; Wagner, Zdeněk ; Bendová, Magdalena
This work presents a study on solubility in water and in water/methanol mixture of a set of ILs composed of the bi (trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide anion and of the N-alkyl-triethyl-ammonium cation (abbrev. [NR222][NTf2]) with the alkyl chain R ranging from 6 to 14 carbons. These ILs were successfully tested for enantioselective hydrogenation of β-ketoesters catalyzed by the chiral complex Ru-BINAP in presence of methanol [1]. From which, it appears that these ILs immobilise the catalyst in the mixture for easier recycling and further re-use and protect it from air/oxygen. The final separation of the product is carried out by rinsing the solution with water, which may also wash out the ILs with catalyst. For this reason, mutual solubilities between ILs and water, as well as between ILs and methanol/water mixture need to be investigated in detail.

Differences in CO2 Extraction of Vegetable Oils, Essential Oils, and Minor Components from Plants
Sovová, Helena
Significant progress in understanding the phenomena that control supercritical fluid extraction from plants was made in the last years and is reflected in the literature. Combination of chemical engineering approach and botanical knowledge has appeared to be fruitful for the choice of extraction model and even for the prediction of extraction kinetics. This contribution refers to the papers utilizing knowledge of plant microstructure and location of extracted substances together with extraction equilibrium and attempts to specify the differences among extraction kinetics of vegetable oils, essential oils, and other substances. The most abundant substances like vegetable oils in seeds can be regarded in first approximation as non-interacting with plant matrix, in contrast to the minor components whose equilibrium concentration in CO2 is affected by their adsorption on matrix and often also by co-extracted substances.

Solute-Matrix and Solute-Solute Interactions during Supercritical Fluid Extraction of Sea Buckthorn Leaves
Sajfrtová, Marie ; Sovová, Helena
In this work, the SFE was applied to extract selected medicinal substances from sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.) leaves at different conditions (pressure 20-28 MPa, temperature 40-60 °C and ethanol concentration in CO2 0-6.9 wt. %) influencing solvent power of CO2. Interest was focused on the leaf oleoresin (total extract) and its minor components (fat soluble vitamins and carotenoids).

Asymmetric Deformation of Bubble Shape – Cause or Effect of Vortex Shedding?
Wichterle, K. ; Večeř, M. ; Růžička, Marek
Generally, it was assumed, that the oscillation results from vortex shedding. This paper is testing this hypothesis by experiments with liquids of different properties – in particular viscosity and surface tension.

Development of Process for Disposal of Plastic Waste Using Plasma Pyrolysis Technology and Option for Energy Recovery
Punčochář, Miroslav ; Ruj, B. ; Chatterjee, P.K.
Plasma pyrolysis is an innovative technology for transforming high calorific plastic waste into a valuable synthesis gas (syngas) by means of thermal plasma. The process developed is a drastic non-incineration thermal process, which uses extremely high temperature in an oxygen-starved environment to completely decompose input plastic waste into syngas, composed of very simple molecules viz : CO, H2 and hydrocarbons. A 20 kg/hr capacity plasma arc pyrolyser for treatment of plastic waste as well as energy recovery options from waste plastic has been indigenously designed, developed, installed and studied its performance at the Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CSIR), Durgapur.

Photocatalytic Processes for Degradation of Endocrine Disruptors from Wastewater
Spáčilová, Lucie ; Maléterová, Ywetta ; Krejčíková, Simona ; Cajthaml, Tomáš ; Šolcová, Olga
The efficiency of the titania oxide thin layers on the glass beads for degradation of 17- ethynylestradiol and bisphenol A in water solution was studied in the batch disposal and consequently in the continual micro-photo reactor. Experiments were performed regarding to the efficiency of the process and evaluation in the term of toxicity of reaction products.

Performance of Continuous Micro Photo Reactor – Comparison with Batch Process
Drhová, Magdalena ; Hejda, S. ; Křišťál, Jiří ; Klusoň, Petr
Utilization of the flow chemistry as well as microreactors belongs to the latest trends in chemical engineering. Continuous microreactors of various kinds can be found in the literature, for example the micromixers, micro packed beds, or micro photo reactors. In order to evaluate the benefits of microtechnology application for the given process, the performance of a particular microreactor needs to be compared with the conventional setup. This contribution presents the performance of a continuous micro photo reactor in comparison with a batch process. Two model reactions were selected: the catalyzed photooxidation of 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) and the singlet oxygen chemical quencher 9,10-dimethylanthracene (DMA) in dimethylformamide. The tests were carried out using advanced opto-chemical apparatus with a well-defined light filter corresponding to the absorption bands of the used photo catalysts.
